Debbie Chaky, Broker/Owner of Jax Realty, located in Orange Park, FL attended the Florida Association of Realtors®, 91st Annual Convention & Trade Expo held August 22 – 26, 2007 at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa in Lake Buena Vista near Orlando, FL.

Each year, FAR’s Convention & Trade Expo brings Realtors® from around the state together to discuss and vote on key issues that shape their profession and state association. In addition to committee meetings, members attend educational seminars on topics such as developing marketing strategies, using the latest computer technology and current real estate industry trends.

Some of the top industry speakers featured during the 2007 FAR Convention included: Nikki Ubaldini, who discussed how to thrive in a changing marketplace and find sales opportunities; Ted Jones, chief economist at Stewart Title Guaranty Company, who discussed economics, interest rates and the Internet as part of his 2008 real estate forecast; keynote motivational speaker Les Brown, who inspired attendees at the Super Sales Day Awards Luncheon; Governor Charlie Christ appeared before a packed room to thank Realtors® for their leadership and support of the property tax reform efforts and urged everyone to spread the word and vote “Yes” on January 29th to the proposed constitutional amendment regarding Save Our Homes reform and the proposed Super Homestead Exemption and stressed the importance of county officials being fiscally responsible and keeping money in the pockets of the residents. He also discussed his efforts to provide property insurance relief to Florida residents by rejecting all applications from insurance companies to increase their rates in Florida. As a result many companies have threatened to leave Florida but the Governor says “Good-bye and good riddance”. He did make a point that some insurance companies are doing good business in Florida and he has received 30 applications from new companies that want to do business in Florida. In ending his speech the Governor pointed out that the future is bright for Florida and to get ready for the next boom. Real Estate professionals throughout the state took advantage of this year’s Trade Expo, where more than 150 booths showcased the latest products, technology and other business tools.
